Black Market Cattle Company Is Changing

Pasture-Raised Beef & Pork | Regenerative Family Farm in Central Alabama

River Cade Farms is a family farm in rural Central Alabama raising heritage-breed, pasture-raised beef and pork through regenerative practices. We focus on soil health, animal welfare, flavor, and building a legacy rooted in faith, family, and freedom.

The name is new. The farm is not.

Many first knew us as Black Market Cattle Company. That name continues as the home of our writing, merchandise, and advocacy for food freedom and voluntary exchange. River Cade Farms is the name of the land, livestock, and family operation itself.

How the Farm Began

Our story started in 2020 with three calves. After my grandmother passed, my grandfather wanted cows again. We bought three calves and built their first pen with sticks, logs, old boards, and sheer determination. The calves promptly escaped to the neighbor’s place.

It wasn’t pretty, but it was the beginning.

In the years that followed, I married, bought rough former timberland, and slowly turned it into a working farm. Then our sons River and Wilder were born. Fatherhood changed everything. The farm became about restoring land, producing honest food, raising children close to creation, and building something that outlasts us.

River Cade Farms is named for them.

Regenerative Farming That Restores the Land

We farm to heal, not just extract. Regenerative agriculture means working with nature: improving soil, increasing biodiversity, and leaving the land better than we found it.

Our animals do what they were created to do. Cattle graze and fertilize. Hogs root and forage. Pastures rest and regenerate. Every season we measure progress by healthier soil, stronger forage, and more resilient animals.

This is not a marketing label. It is the direction of the farm.

Heritage Breeds Chosen for Resilience and Flavor

We raise traditional breeds selected for hardiness, mothering ability, foraging instinct, and exceptional meat quality — not just fast growth.

• Cattle: Influenced by historic Southern breeds like Pineywoods and Florida Cracker, blended with strong beef genetics. These animals thrive in Alabama heat, humidity, insects, and variable forage.

• Hogs: Berkshire, Duroc, and American Guinea Hog crosses known for rich flavor, superior fat quality (marbling and lard), and natural pasture performance.

Slower growth means better taste and nutrition. We believe the wait is worth it.

Truly Pasture-Raised Beef and Pork

Our animals live outdoors with constant access to fresh pasture, woods, sunshine, and clean spring water. Hogs root, wallow, and forage naturally. We use no added hormones and no routine antibiotics.

Customers consistently tell us the difference is obvious: richer flavor, better texture, and superior fat quality.

Custom Farm Shares for Local Families

We sell directly to families who want to know exactly where their food comes from.

• Pork: Half or whole hog shares

• Beef: Larger custom freezer shares (availability varies by season)

You choose your cuts and custom processing options, including:

• Steaks, roasts, and ground beef

• Pork chops, bacon, breakfast sausage, ham, ribs, and Boston butt

• Organ meats, soup bones, and renderable leaf lard

Buying a farm share gives your family nutrient-dense, locally raised meat while directly supporting regenerative agriculture in Alabama.

Local Food Strengthens Communities

We believe resilient communities feed themselves. Direct farm purchases keep money local, preserve agricultural knowledge, build real relationships, and reduce dependence on fragile supply chains.

This is more than meat. It’s participation in a healthier food system.

More Than a Farm

Black Market Cattle Company remains the home of our writing, merchandise, and advocacy for food freedom, voluntary exchange, and independence from centralized systems.

River Cade Farms is the farm itself and represents what we are building on the land: restored ground, resilient animals, strong families, and honest food for our community.

We are raising hardy livestock, healing neglected ground, and creating something our sons can inherit and improve.

Heritage livestock. Regenerative agriculture. Pasture-raised excellence. Local relationships. A legacy still being written.
